Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between impulsivity and EEG responses. 29 impulsive subjects and 25 normal subjects were selected by the score of Barratt Impulsiveness Scale-11. EEG activity was measured by a
'10-20'
system, The score of motor impulsivity subscales showed a positive correlation with EEG of prefrontal region and showed the negative relationship with frontal region. The arousal level of the central region was lower in the impulsive subject than
the
normal subjects. But the arousal level of the prefrontal and anterior temporal region were higher in the impulsive subjects than the normal subjects, which showed unpredictable reversed relationships. In conclusion there were inconsistent
relationships
between the impulsivity and the cortical arousal level, which may explain inconsistencies between previous findings. More research is needed on the topographical differences of arousal in impulsive subjects.
